Install stock XXEMG4 Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean on Galaxy S3 GT-I9300 using Manual Method, OTA or KIES

Samsung has been issued a new official revise for its worldwide type of Galaxy S3 form number GT-I9300, this new revise is based on Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean and is entitled XXEMG4.

  1.  Firstly, a computer with a stable internet connection and the original USB cable will be used additional with the S3 device.
  2. Secondly, download and install Samsung KIES on the PC use these links, for Windows PCs from Here, and for MAC PCs from Here.
  3. Now, connect the S3 device to the PC via USB cable.
  4. Next, open up the Samsung Kies software on the PC. The KIES app should detect the S3 device.
  5. On the home of Samsung Kies app should appear a New Firmware Upgrade is available.
  6. Now, when you want to start the update process press on Firmware Upgrade button.
  7. Check the box, for accept the terms and conditions about the new upgrade and then begin the process by pressing START Upgrade.
  8. Wait until the download and installation processes are done.
  9.  When the installation process is done, the device will get an automatically reboot.
  10.  That’s it. The installation of the new OS is done now.
  11. Verify the new version of OS by navigating to SettingsAbout deviceAndroid & Baseband version.
Those who don’t can install the newest official JB 4.1.2 firmware may follow the step-by-step guide to flash it using ODIN app, which is a flashing tool developed by Samsung.

Flash the official Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean (XXEMG4) firmware on Galaxy S3 GT-I9300 using Odin software.

  1.  Firstly, download the official Jelly Bean XXEMG4 4.1.2 file to the PC.
  2. Secondly, extract the downloaded zip file to get a .tar.md5 file with other files.
  3. Now, download ODIN app extract its content and install the same.
  4.  Turn off the S3 device completely.
  5. Next, boot it into Download Mode. (Press and keep holding the Home and Volume Down buttons simultaneous and then press the Power button, when a construction Android robot logo together with a triangle  are showed press the Volume UP button).
  6.  Open Odin3 v3.07.exe as an Administrator on your PC.
  7. Now, connect the SGS3 device to the PC via USB cord while the device is in the Download Mode.
  8. Odin app should recognize the device, and it have to display the Added message when the connection is done. Also, the ID:COM area and the COM port number from ODIN will turn on blue, indicating the connection is successfully done.
  9. Note:  If the ODIN app didn’t recognize the device and the Added message doesn’t appear then change the USB port connection with other one and reinstall the USB drivers once again.
  10. Now, select and load for installing the necessary files for update process as below:
    a)    From the ODIN app, click the PDA button, browse and select the .tar.md5 file.b)    From the ODIN app, click the Phone button, browse and select the file which contains the Modem in its name.
    c)    From the ODIN app click CSC button then browse and select the file that contains CSC in its name.
    d)    Now, from the ODIN software click the PIT button then browse and select the file with .pit extension.
    Note: Ignore next steps (b, c and d) if there such files don’t exist.
  11. Important: On the ODIN settings you have to configure like that:
  12. Make sure that the Auto Reboot and F.Reset Time checkboxes are selected. But Make sure that the Re-Partition option is unchecked, select it only when a .pit file is loaded and for using.
  13.  Now, when you want to begin the flashing process click the Start button in Odin flashing tool
  14.  The flashing Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean process should start now, and it will take a few minutes to be done.
  15. When the flashing process is done, the SGS3 device will take an automatically restart, and in the ODIN app a PASS message will be displayed, that will indicate that the installation process is successfully done.
  16. Now, disconnect the Galaxy S3 device from the PC.
The smartphone should now running with the new official Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean XXEMG4 version.
To verify the version if the actual OS, navigate to the next path: Settings>About device>Android & Baseband
 Troubleshooting:
 In case the Samsung Galaxy S3 device gets stuck at the beginning of boot on the booting animation or is entering on a boot loop, then you have to do:
  •  Boot your device into Recovery Mode (press and keep holding the Home+ Power + Volume UP buttons in the same time.
  • From the Recovery Mode select wipe cache partition to perform data wiping action.
  • When the wiping task is done return to the main Recovery Mode menu.
  • From the Recovery Mode main menu select Reboot System Now.
 Note: for navigating into Recovery Mode, use Volume keys for scrolling and Power button for selecting options.
Remember that: when a wiping task is applied all data saved to the internal memory of the Galaxy S3 device will be erased.
